Another day, another story about rising tensions in the region between Georgia and Russia. One of these days, I’d like to do a post that can serve as a sort of backgrounder to the problem if only to allow me to better understand the situation. In the meantime, however, I must settle for something much simpler.
The Great Russo-Georgio Spat of ‘08 has apparently made its way to the UN Security Council. From Georgia’s perspective, that must seem a little unfair and I can’t imagine what good they think will come of it when Russia is one of the Security Council members with veto status. From Russia’s perspective, one would have thought they would have flexed their muscle enough to keep this out of the UNSC. Either way, the UN’s attention to the matter seems to be about as committed as it was to Tibet in 1950 and we all know how that went down.
